Three Things Only Bruins Fans Know
The Flying Goal. On Mother’s Day 1970, Bobby Orr scored the Cup winner against St. Louis and was tripped into the air, arms raised, mid-flight. It became the most famous photograph in hockey, and there’s a statue of it outside TD Garden.
The first American team. Founded in 1924, the Bruins were the first NHL team based in the United States — the senior American member of the Original Six, which is why the black and gold carries a century of history into every season.
2011 ended 39 years. The Bruins’ run through Vancouver in the 2011 Final ended a drought stretching back to the Orr era. The Big Bad Bruins name, earned in the 1970s, has never really left the building since.
